英語で聴くITトレンド
10代後半から20代の頃、「自分の専門と関係のある英語を聴きたい、そういうのがあれば英語の勉強にも身が入るのに」といつも思っていたが、そんな教材なんて全然なかった。今はいいなぁ本当に、羨ましいなぁ、とまた今日も思った。

を読んで、iPod効果の一つなのであろうが、IT産業のホットな話題について一流の人が語っている英語がネット上に溢れ始めているのを実感した。このBlogのテーマ「タイムシフティングからメディアシフティングへ」という意味は、好きな時間に好きなものを見たり聴いたりできるようになるタイムシフティングに加えて、PC上で映像で見なければならなかったものをiPodに音だけ落として移動中に聴けるようになるというようなメディアシフティングがあればもっといいなぁ、という話。

Not because I lack interest, or time, but because the content isn't available in a format that suits the kind of time I have. In this case, the format would be audio, and the kind of time would be walking-, jogging-, or driving-time.
自分がこれをまだ見ていないのは、興味がないからじゃなくて、コンテンツが、自分が持っている空き時間とぴったり合ったフォーマットに合っていないのだと言う。彼が持っている時間とは、歩いている時間、ジョギングしている時間、ドライブしている時間。そこを埋めるのは、オーディオon iPodだということ。
Note that in some cases, audio presentations could adapted for missing visuals. While out walking yesterday, for example, I listened to Clay Shirky's excellent ontology talk from ETech 2005. The absence of slides was mostly not a problem, but there was one glaring exception.
昨日歩きながらClay Shirkyのetechでのトークを聴いていたらしい。スライドの中身が見えなくてもまぁだいたい何とかなるのだ。

に行って、聴いてみたいスピーチやトークを探して聴いてみることをお薦めしたい。でもなかなか「何でもできる自由な時間」に「耳だけで聴く」のは辛いもの。「耳で聴く」くらいしかできない通勤時間みたいなときに聴くのがいいのでしょうね、やはり。

Bill Gurley, General Partner, Benchmark Capital, says that massively multi-player online roleplaying games (MMORPGs) are an "insanely profitable business." Hear about a game in China that has 9 million active users, and how players are so fanatical in Korea, that the police have had to investigate the theft of in-world characters. Bill says MMORPGs are a business opportunity far beyond EverQuest.
