I think the key to the trade is getting rid of a player with a bad attitude and an undeserved salary while he still has some value. Ledee is making $1.225 million this year, while Felix is making $3.05 million, so that's a savings of a little under $2 million. According to this site, Felix has an option for next year for $3.15 million. (The team has an option for $5 million. That's not much of an option.)
So my take is although we didn't gain a whole lot, we got rid of a bad attitude with declining abilities, all the while freeing up another $3 million for next year. Along with Christiansen's $3 million, Neifi's $2 million, and Nen's $9 million (all numbers approximate), that's $17 million right there freed up for next year's intriguing free agent class.

The Giants have tried to get Cabrera, who batted .297 with 80 RBIs for the Expos last year, but they are not keen on meeting Montreal's proposal of Cabrera and a marginal companion for prospects that might include David Aardsma, Matt Cain and Merkin Valdez. That would be a huge risk for the Giants because Cabrera can flee as a free agent after the season.
