(1) 4人の補強「shortstop Omar Vizquel, closer Armando Benitez, catcher Mike Matheny and right fielder Moises Alou」はチームに欠けている部品をきっちり埋めたもの。高く評価できる。
(2) 課題はベテラン選手たちの健康。これは開幕してみないと何ともいえぬ。
(3) ボンズはステロイド問題とひざの故障を克服して昨年並みの活躍ができるか。714号到達は間違いないが755号到達には至らないだろう。今年のボンズは並の活躍とみる。
(4) Jesse Foppertは復活してローテーションの一角に食い込めるか。2005年はロングリリーフで2006年に期待。
(5) ブルペン構成は「Brower, Benitez, Matt Herges, Scott Eyre and Jason Christiansen figure to be locks in the bullpen to back the five starters, leaving only one or two spots open for Foppert, Tyler Walker, Wayne Franklin, David Aardsma and non-roster invitees Jeff Fassero and Al Levine. 」となる。欲をいえばもう一枚いいセットアッパーが欲しい。
(6) ペドロ・フェリスは一塁、三塁、ショート、レフト、ライトの練習をして、ベテランたちが休むポジションに日替わりで入りそう。
(7) 新加入のVizquel(ショート)とMatheny(捕手)が守備の要。Matheny加入は投手陣の成績向上という形で現れてくるだろう。
