「The Billy Goat Curse
In 1945, William "Billy Goat" Sianis tried to bring his pet goat, Murphy, with him into Wrigley Field for Game 4 of the World Series. Ushers at the game said the goat was too smelly and told Sianis he had to leave. To retaliate, Sianis cast a "goat curse" on the Cubs by saying, "Cubs, they not gonna win anymore". The Cubs lost the 1945 World Series to the Detroit Tigers and haven't made it to a World Series since. The "goat curse" still seems to be alive. How else can you explain the Cubs blowing a three-run lead in Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series against the Florida Marlins? 」

3-0で迎えた8回表のリグレイ・フィールド。アルーがスタンド上空のファウルフライを取ろうとしたら、ファンが妨害したためアウト取れず。アルー激怒。その後、エラーも重なり、8点を取られた。しかし、アルーはあんなに観客に対して怒るべきじゃなかった。あまりにも狭量だった。ちなみにアルーは、ジャイアンツのアルー監督の息子。

But in 1920, Harry Frazee, the owner of the Sox, needed some money to pay for his girlfriend's Broadway musical, so he traded Ruth to the New York Yankees for $125,000 and the Curse of the Bambino was born. Since then, the New York Yankees have won 26 World Series titles, and the Red Sox have suffered through years of disappointment. The curse spooked the Red Sox again in 2003. Boston had a 5-2 lead against the Yankees in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series, but ended up losing the game 6-5 in 11 innings. The curse lives on... 」
なるほど、ただベーブ・ルースをトレードに出したというのではなく、オーナーが、「his girlfriend's Broadway musical」のために少しカネが必要だったので、$125,000でベーブ・ルースをニューヨークに渡した。そこで「the Curse of the Bambino was born」というわけだったか。
