昨夜はSBC Parkへ観戦に行ったが、ジャイアンツは敗れた。シュミットが本調子でないながらも7回までを2点に押さえ、2-1で8-9回に入ったわけだが、プルペンが崩れて4点を取られた。ブルペンがこのままだと、やはり試合にならない。

クリスチャンセンをcloserにしたいが、故障上がりなので無理かもしれないという話がマーキュリー・ニュースに出ている。

Christiansen has earned three saves since the All-Star break, retiring 15 of 16 batters and stranding 13 of 14 inherited runners. He entered the game Saturday against St. Louis with the Giants clinging to an 8-7 lead in the ninth, a runner on first and none out, and worked out of it.

クリスチャンセンはこう言う。

``Any time a reliever goes out, I think they always think of themselves as a closer no matter what inning they're in,'' Christiansen said. ``Would I feel comfortable in strictly throwing the ninth inning? I don't know.

昨日は、Merkin Valdezのメジャーリーグ・デビューに居合わせることができた。感動的だったのは、スコット・ローレンを押さえてベンチに戻るValdezへの観客のスタンディング・オベーション。メジャーの観客の野球への精通、選手への愛情。実際に球場でこれを実感すると体が熱くなってくる。
ところで、Valdezはフェリックスによく似ている。97-98マイルの速球を投げていた。
